All of these activities, as well as many others, are designed to benefit all citizens of Garland and allow the City to comply with federal and state laws and regulations. Some of the activities of the Stormwater Department include: Presentations - Pollution prevention presentations are free of charge and available upon request for neighborhood block parties, schools and civic groups. Water Monitoring and Sampling - to identify sources of pollution, and to correct them Storm Drain Marking - to make citizens aware that storm drains lead directly to our surface water reserves Street Sweeping - to reduce pollutants on street surfaces that can flush to waterways Channel, Ditch and Storm Drain Maintenance - to remove any debris that could cause drainage problems during rain events Household Hazardous Waste Collection - to help eliminate toxic products entering our water supply and landfill Hazardous Material Spill Response, Containment and Clean-up - to reduce hazardous pollutants from entering our water ways Stormwater Hotline - to provide stormwater quality information and to report pollution Stormwater Detention - to reduce flooding Pesticide Application Control - to reduce pesticides applied in the city that could pollute waterways Construction Site Run-off Control - to reduce the amount of sediment that enters our drainage system and the waterways
