Garland Police responded to a vehicle crash on LBJ Freeway at La Prada this morning just after 2:30 am. When officers arrived they found a 1999 Honda in a ditch off the roadway of the North Bound side of LBJ, just north of the La Prada bridge. The 22 year old driver of McKinney, Randeep Bains, suffered minor cuts and bruises from the crash. The passenger, 21 year old Anthony Franklin of McKinney, died at the scene.
Garland’s Traffic Unit is investigating the wreck and at this time they believe speed and alcohol are the contributing factors. Officers believe the Honda was traveling at a very high rate of speed as it started into the left curve of LBJ at La Prada. As the car traveled through the curve it began to skid out of control. The car then started rolling over until it came to rest in a ditch off the roadway. Officer’s shut down the North bound side of LBJ for several hours in order to map the scene for evidence.
Randeep Bains was arrested and is in the Garland Jail, charged with Intoxication Manslaughter, a second degree felony. Bond has not been set at this time.
